drunk girl on the sidewalk stumbled into my circle
was she looking for help or a friend or what?
she fell down
we tried to help
put her in a cab
sent her on her way
the cabby put her out
couldn't remember how to get herself home
didn't know any friends phone numbers to call for help
couldn't answer questions
didn't have any ID
no cell phone
just a few bottles of pills
and some heels
she fell into the splits
more than once
thankfully didn't hit her head
poor thing
what do you do?
at school you would take her to safe haven - find a security officer or student patrol and get her somewhere safe
but what do you do when you're on queen street, and it's 2 in the morning, only just above freezing, and the last train is leaving to get you home?
some good people took charge and got her some help
and i got to my train on time
with a broken heart
and a desire to reform our social system?
